Bill's Beach

Bill’s Beach – Watercolor on Paper

Named for my father, this piece captures the spirit of our family beach along the Kennebecasis River. Set against a bold sky of violet, pink, and blue, the roaring fire creates a surreal, "high definition" clarity where past and present memories exist on the same plane. However, this clarity also illuminates a humbling truth about our privilege and place. To call us "uninvited guests" on this unceded territory is a vast understatement; we are merely recent settlers on land held by Indigenous peoples for millennia. Yet, within this brief blip of time where our family has been fortunate enough to occupy this space, my father has tended to it with profound devotion. He has—if nothing else—taken good care of this land.
